How to make romance on Ibiza

Turn the White Isle a shade of vibrant love-filled red.

Ibiza is quite possibly one of the most romantic and sexually charged islands in the world. Many visitors to Ibiza find themselves not only falling in love with the island but meeting the love of their life here too.

Bohemian lifestyles, liberal norms, sensational sunsets, fabulous scenery, skimpy and sexy summer clothes and steamy nightclubs really are all the necessary ingredients you need to create an atmosphere perfect for love.

After your chance encounter on a dance floor, in a bar, or even in the departure lounge, where do you go to take this blossoming romance to the next level? Here are a few of our recommendations for romantic gestures guaranteed to get you your first magical moments of intimacy.

Blissful moments at the Torre de Sal Rossa watchtower

What can be a more romantic moment than sitting on the sand with a loved one, as a silvery full moon or golden sun rises majestically out of the sea? These awe-inspiring spectacles can be enjoyed all along the east coast of the island. Take a drive out to the best spots. In the evening, on the peaceful nudist beach of Aguas Blancas or a moonrise celebration at Aiyanna Restaurant on Cala Nova. In the morning, watch the sun come up, after a hard night clubbing, from Torre de Sal Rossa watchtower at the southern end of Playa d'en Bossa beach, with stunning views back across the sweeping bay.

Sunsets at Punta Galera will melt even the hardest of hearts

Over on the west coast the fabulous sunsets are always guaranteed to stir the emotions. Avoid the hustle and bustle of the Sunset Strip and enjoy a peaceful moment of contemplation at the end of the day from the rocks at Punta Galera or the nearby Hostal La Torre - just like the star-crossed lovers in the legendary film More. Who knows what thrills the night will bring?

Alternatively, get the very best view of all by taking a sunset parasailing cruise over the glittering waves of San Antonio Bay. Feel the rush of excitement, holding hands while you dangle precariously 300 metres above the crowds below - Jimmy's Mambo Parasailing leaves San Antonio most evenings but it is essential to pre-book.

Cinema al romantico, anyone?

Why not take it slow and enjoy an open-air movie night with outdoor cinema specialists, Cinema Paradiso? Showing recent hits and cult classics from two exotic locations; Los Enamorados (meaning ‘the lovers') overlooking the beautiful bay of Portinatx, and Amante (meaning ‘lover') Beach Club at Sol d'en Serra (yes there is a theme here…).

Both venues have superb restaurants with stunning views, ideal for that special dinner for two, before settling down on the large bean bags, with a bucket of popcorn and cuddling up for the main feature. At Amante you can even book an extremely intimate dining space for lovers, away from everyone in your own Balinese hut.

Just for lovers - a table just for two, away from it all

Lock yourselves away in your hotel, apartment or villa and order in a platter of oysters from Oyster Ibiza to be delivered to your door. The mythical aphrodisiac properties of these magical molluscs are sure to get your lover in the mood. Legendary seducer Casanova swore by them and if they were good enough to satisfy his rampant libido, they will be good enough for you.

Walk up the ramp, through the citadel walls and enter the historic old town of Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town. The romantic cobbled streets and charming restaurants come alive on a sultry summer evening and are full of couples walking arm in arm. Treat your date to an intimate evening meal at El Olivo Mio and watch all the other lovers strolling past, or even dance a little salsa in the street next to the Plaza del Sol restaurant in the square of the same name.

Lose yourself in love on Formentera

Run away to Formentera! Hop on the first crossing of Aquabus from Ibiza or Playa d'en Bossa, rent a Vespa in the port of La Savina and ride around the island, exploring the beaches together. A ride to the lighthouse at Cap de Barbaria, the southernmost tip of the Balearic Islands, is a must and the more adventurous may even sleep under the stars on the beach at Playa Migjorn.

Of course, this is just the tip of the love iceberg. Ibiza and its sister island of Formentera are filled with romantic opportunity. All you need do is go and grab it or await Cupid's arrow of desire and let ardour flow in.
