BBC Radio 2’s Café Mambo takeover

Saturday 6 July on the sunset strip

For the first time ever to coincide with Café Mambo's 25th anniversary celebration, BBC Radio 2 will be making its way to Ibiza for a live broadcast direct from the island institution.

Hosted by TV and radio personality Rylan Clarke-Neal, the show will include talks and musical performances from some special guests. Legendary house vocalist CeCe Peniston, '00s popstar Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Blues singer Izo Fitzroy are all set to perform.

Scene veteran Chicane will be on hand performing a chillout sunset DJ set - his first in many years. Now that's Balearic! And additional surprise appearances from notable personalities of Ibiza's past and present are also likely.

This inaugural event takes place a month before the traditional weekend that sister-station Radio 1 lands on the island. How many former Radio 1 listeners have since migrated to Radio 2, we cannot say, but this is the ideal opportunity for a bit of misty-eyed nostalgia.

Set on the iconic coastal walkway in San Antonio, Café Mambo is renowned worldwide for its unrivalled views of the sunset. Proprietor Javier Anadon has already been honoured for the venue's 25th year, being bestowed with International Music Summit's Legend award back in May.

Interested? Either head down to Café Mambo or listen in from 16:00 to 19:00 local time on BBC Sounds.
