Stormzy's 6ft 5in frame will be let loose on Ibiza Rocks' stage in 2017 as he returns to the Balearic heat with the first ever #MERKY Festival.
Running on from his massively successful monthly #MERKY takeover last summer, and having seen his profile rocket over the winter months, the South London rapper and Ibiza Rocks are taking it to the next level with this exclusive one-off whopper. What you'll witness on Tuesday 11 July is a full-on multi stage festival with a hand-picked line-up of the fiercest urban music talent, and it'll be plugged in for 10 hours.
If you've clocked Stormzy's meteoric rise, you may or may not know the following: he won the Mobo award for best grime act two years in a row; Wiley, the Godfather of Grime, tipped him as being the #1 grime don in this new era; his independently released debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, became the first grime album in history to hold the number 1 spot on the charts; and even before its release in February this year, tickets for his March-May UK tour sold out in less than 24 hours.
With all that in mind, it's huge news for Ibiza Rocks and Jordan Hallpike, Director of Talent & Programming, had this to add: “Stormzy feels like part of the Rocks family. We gave him his first show supporting Dizzee Rascal in July 2015 and it was clear at that moment that we were going to do more great things together. In 2016, we pushed the boundaries once more and welcomed Stormzy back for a #MERKY summer residency - the first ever grime residency in Ibiza. Together, we sparked change on the island's club listings whilst fully championing the unmissable movement in the tide for the position of grime in the music industry. This one-off festival concept ups the game yet again and there's no better or stronger player in the game right now than Stormzy.”
