Where and what?
Not just one but three beaches in the secluded and achingly pretty resort of Portinatx in the North of the island. As you descend into the resort, you'll get terrific views of the bay and the beaches, which seem to welcome you over to try them out. Each beach is quite distinct: the biggest one is S'Arenal Gros followed by the more private S'Arenal Petit and then Playa Porto, which is surrounded by pine-covered hills.
Why go?
Portinatx is a popular place with families and all the beaches are safe for children. Its relative quietness makes this a great place to go if you want to escape the crowds during the peak summer months of July and August. The beaches here provide an oasis of calm, as well as great beauty, with sparklingly clear waters and picture postcard prettiness. You also get amazing panoramic views of the bay that are simply breathtaking.
Things to do
The clear waters are great for snorkelling and the seabed is fine white sand, so no cutting your toes on any rocks. There's a diving school, pedalos, SUP and kayak for the sea adventurer in you. A more gentle activity would be to take one of the walks around the bay to take in the scenery and take a few selfies. There are bars and restaurants next to the beaches and many are located close by as are shops. Go and see the biggest lighthouse in the Balearics at Playa Porto beach and enjoy the beautiful ruggedness on the way.
How to get there
You can get to Portinatx by car and you can be assured that it's well signposted. There's also a bus that goes there or you can get a boat there from San Antonio.
