Opening party time!
May means that Ibiza is about to start welcoming a spate of tourists who'll descend on the island in time for the club opening parties. There are so many to write about that we couldn't do them justice in one piece, so instead we'll suggest you head over to our ever-popular party calendar to start planning and buying your tickets - plus in our clubbing section you'll find everything you need to know about the upcoming season and all the parties you'd be mad to miss. Opening season goes on well into June, so if you haven't found a hotel or booked your flight yet, this should be your next action.
Ibiza legends and parties on the hill
Your next, next action should be to check out and book events surrounding the world-renowned IMS (International Music Summit), which takes place between 25-27 May. Be sure to bag your spot at the 'Legends' Dinner' on 25 May, which this year will take place on Space's terrace. The dinner will celebrate the influence of the club's founder, Pepe Rosello - honouring the man himself and the legacy of the iconic venue, in this, its final year. Snap up a ticket today because these always sell fast. Fast forward to the final day of the conference and you'll want to make a beeline for the closing party at Dalt Vila - one of those very special occasions in a stunning location that needs to be experienced to be believed.
Family theatre fun
The Barraguet Festival promises live theatre for all ages in a four-day event starting 19 May. There are puppet and clown shows and some of the theatre pieces have no dialogue, meaning you wont be held back by language. The lack of speaking in these performances means that all has to be communicated with gestures and expressions. Look out for guest performer Limfjordsteatret, a Danish theatre company that's putting on Don Q, a wordless version of Don Quijote or check out the amazing choreography of the African Brazilian percussion performance. Cinema al fresco
It's actually called Cinema Paradiso which returns Ibiza's original outdoor cinema to Dalt Vila in the Old Town for film showings throughout the summer season. You'll be treated to classics like The Godfather and Scarface and recent releases like Trumbo and Victoria, the art house masterpiece. For a mere €16, you get a comfy custom-made bean-bag to sink into with a drink and popcorn included in the price. The next showing is of Legend on 26 May, the story about British gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Kray, which you can watch under the twinkling stars of Ibiza. The full summer programme can be found here.
Live at Las Dalias
Las Dalias continues with its series of live music events on 22 May taking place in San Carlos's multicultural centre. Doors open at 6pm with the first gig from duo Canteca de Macao at 7pm, a pair that really sing from the heart. They will be covering tracks from their latest album as well as their greatest hits which feature themes of internal growth, precious moments and loves and sorrows. Later at 9.30pm expect a different sound with a performance from Natural Live Trance from dancefloor sensation Highlight Tribe. Tickets can be purchased at Las Dalias, Delta Discos, Holidays in Santa Eulalia or online at Code Tickets or Ticketea.
Local tastes
There's still time to take advantage of Ibiza Sabor, a celebration of the local food of the island running until 29 May in 50 participating restaurants. Here for €35 you can sample food that's as traditionally local and slow cooked as you can get. There are tempting savoury dishes to sample like Bullit de Peix, a fish stew or Sofrit Pages a tasty casserole with fresh and cured meat and vegetables. There's lots of local fish on the menus, including the local peix fort, a big tasty red rockfish.
