Ibiza, although relatively small, is home to many varying landscapes. Around every corner lies breathtaking scenery and dramatic backdrops ranging from fields, panoramic seascapes and jaw-dropping sunset view points. Here's a few of my favourite vantage spots for taking in the spectacular vistas around this magical island we are lucky enough to call home.
Hotel La Torre Del Canonigo
Located at the highest point of Dalt Vila, the old walled part of Ibiza Town, the steep walk up to this gorgeous hotel is certainly worth it. Offering stunning views over Ibiza's harbour, marina and port you can pop in for a cocktail or eat at the incredibly high-end Japanese restaurant Kyuppido whilst watching the sunset and marveling at how utterly romantic the old town really is.
Insider Info - Suite number 8. If you do fancy spoiling yourself with a stay at the hotel, then Suite 8 is the mother of all hotel rooms. Spanning the entire width of the building you have the view of the harbour on one side and a view onto the quaint cobbled street on the other. At sun down, have a glass of chilled champagne on your private balcony before taking a dip in your very own hot tub. Sheer class.
Hacienda Na Xemana
Tucked away right in the north of the island lies the wonderful Hacienda, a discreet and romantic bolthole where you can hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the super clubs and beach resorts. Within the hotel is a beautiful spa which contains The Cascades - a circuit of spa pools cut into the rocks which overlook the most sensational of views. Sheer cliffs nose dive into the crystal blue sea. One hell of a way to watch the sunset.
Insider Info - The spa does some wonderful deals which include dinner, lunch or snacks. Well worth it and a terrific way to spend the day.
Sa Talaia
The highest point of the island is located 475 metres above sea level through woodlands and from here on a clear day you can see the island in its entirety and all the way to the mainland. A really special spot best reached by jeep, you'll be blown away by the view.
Insider Info - The small town of San Jose is just around the corner from Sa Talaia and is a great place to stop for tapas and a beer on the way to or from the hill. Raco Verde in the town centre have a leafy courtyard with live music so why not make a day out of it!?
Sa Punta de Talamanca
A magical location and mezzanine terraces make Sa Punta a sensational place to watch the sunset. With views across the bay to the old town, and a choice of two types of cuisine - Patchwork, the Lebanese restaurant with roof terrace and Ginger, their all new Asian food bar which is set amongst pine trees up on the cliffs, it is well worth a look.
Insider Info - Even if you're not feeling too hungry, you can visit the exquisite roof terrace for a sunset cocktail. Their drinks and wine list is one of the biggest on the island and cocktails are made with lots of love and care.
Pirate Tower Es Vedra
Torre de Savinar is an old pirate tower which you have to hike to through undergrowth from the main road. However, upon arrival, the view across to the magical rock of Es Vedra will blow your head off. You can actually climb to the top of the tower through the circular interior for spectacular mind-blowing sunset views and a bonafide Ibiza experience.
Insider Info - After the sun goes down and you navigate your way back through the bush, take the road down to Cala d'Hort to either Es Boldado or El Carmen for the best paellas the island has to offer. You'll come away feeling properly Ibiza-ed!
Hopefully, these are some top tips for where to grab incredible views of the island in all its natural beauty.
Next week, W will be for Winter - a guide to what the locals get up to when all the tourists go home...
