First Michelin starred restaurant for the Pitiusas!

Can Dani in Formentera romps away with the prize of the region's first Michelin starred restaurant.

Formentera restaurant, Can Dani, has become the first restaurant in the Pitiusas to be awarded a coveted Michelin star, the most prestigious accolade that can currently be awarded to any dining establishment, anywhere in the World.

After visiting this contemporary-meets-rustic style restaurant based in San Ferran, the Michelin inspector was impressed, saying:

One of the island's most impressive and surprising restaurants with a look that is contemporary and Mediterranean in feel. The cuisine focuses on doing a lot with relatively little, creating imaginative and seasonal cuisine that evolves with its clientele. Local ingredients take pride of place, alongside great attention to detail and a respect for traditional flavours.

It's the first time a restaurant in the Pitiuses (Ibiza and Formentera) has entered this exclusive culinary club of distinction, where the World's most elite establishments can receive the maximum award of three stars, of which there are only 8 in the whole of Spain.

This year's Michelin guide for Spain and Portugal, unveiled last Wednesday, November 18th in Marbella, sees Can Dani join the other 18 distinguished new entries that have shown the necessary culinary finesse and future promise demanded by this highest of professional accolades.

Cataluña as a region, with 50 Michelin starred restaurants, continues its reign as the region with the most Michelin stars, by far outdoing its nearest competitor, the Basque country with more than double its 21 outstanding dining establishments.

Can Dani itself is a beautiful, affordable, restaurant but with an elegance and quality that is extraordinary. They pride themselves on their healthy ‘roots cuisine' of creative tapas, use of fresh, locally sourced products, healthy aperitivos, locally caught fish and seafood, the best gin and tonics and of course, the meat. Oh boy.

Open all year round, many say in fact, that the best time to visit Can Dani is on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm or Sundays from midday to experience their whopping 600g cuts of beef. But in a down-to-earth stroke of genius, the guys at Can Dani even provide a takeaway service. Day-trippers who do not have time to dine, take note!

We at Spotlight reckon this is definately one to check out for yourselves - call Can Dani to make a reservation on (+34) 971 32 85 05
