Ibiza Fiestas - Patron Saint's Day of Santa Gertrudis

Patron Saint's Day in any of Ibiza's villages is worth seeing but in the cosmopolitan village of Santa Gertrudis, it has an extra zest! Don't miss it!.

For a comprehensive list of Fiestas on Ibiza during the year, please see Calendar of Fiesta Days

Situated right in the centre of Ibiza, Santa Gertrudis is famed for its cured ham, multitude of pavement cafes and top quality restaurants, as well as some super boutiques and a popular auction house.

The village has long been a melting pot of different cultures and nationalities, which lends to a truly cosmopolitan and Bohemian feel about the place. That said, Santa Gertrudis still maintains its very strong Spanish roots, and the celebration of its Patron Saint on 16th November is perfect testimony to this.

As always, the festivities stretch out for over a month and will last until 25th November, but the Patron Saint's Day of Santa Gertrudis itself falls on 16th November. Starting at mid-day with Solemn Mass in the village's late eighteenth century church, there will then follow a procession and traditional Ibiza folk dancing in the church square. The evening celebrations kick off at 21.00 with a disco and raffle.

On Saturday 17th November, Restaurant Santa Gertrudis will be host to a chess championship, then from 21.00, Fiesta La Movida with DJ Petit and Vazquez will be playing Spanish pop music of the 80s and 90s. And if you have the energy after all that dancing, you can join in a 14 km walk on Sunday 18th November starting at 09.00 from Santa Gertrudis to Benirras.

Also worth checking out is an exhibition of paintings by artist Juan Morato of "springs, wells and places of Ibiza", which can be seen in the church from 16th to 18th November. All proceeds will be donated to the charity APNEEF, supporting children with special needs on Ibiza and Formentera.

So if you are here on the island, you would be well advised to go along and enjoy the celebrations of one of Ibiza's most popular and charming rural villages.
