Editors' Choice - 30th May 2013

Hotels, villas, restaurant reviews, things to do, clubbing news - it's a monster week as the season rev's up!.

Keeping it real

Recently a friend said to me, ‘What would happen if the media announced the recession was over?'

I recalled the question this morning as the news across Europe blasted out ‘get set for the worst Summer in 200 years'. Granted, Ibiza's temperatures may not be as high as they usually are at this time of year but leaving the media sensation behind, let's check the facts.

The sky is a vibrant blue, people are walking around with (very short!) shorts on, banana boat rides are flying across the bays and there's enough sunburnt shoulders around to make a lobster chuckle. Are we having to put the air conditioning on as we drive? No. We're enjoying the pine scented breeze. Media and meteorology outcry be damned – we're having a ball! Time to get stuck in and share some of it with you.

Things to Do:

1.

Island Insiders, prior to the evenings clubbing events, will probably all be heading to Atzaro for the much awaited for launch of Sid Shanti's cookbook, Glorious Food (and Music!) tonight. There's talk of quite a show being put on for the occasion…

2.

Oh, whilst on the subject of food, a little heads-up about Hidden Bar (Cala San Vicent) resident chef this year, James Taylor. We've been privy to the menu and already a fan of the venue, we're looking forward to some wonderful summer meals, accompanied by Chris Edwardes (International Cocktail Guru) creations. And yes, that is Fat Boy Slim – he's a fan too.

3.

Talking of celebrities, Jade Jagger this week launches at Ibiza Atelier (above 'Inkadelic', Ibiza Town) Feel most welcome to pop along from 4pm, Saturday 01st June.

4.

Further ahead, the phenomenal Care4Cats charity is organising a Zumba fundraising event – highly recommended! If you're up for a giggle and raising money for an amazing cause, pop 14th June in your diary! (Link to the Facebook event details - in both Spanish & English)

4.

If you have a spare day but have already overdone it at the beach, check out Exploring Ibiza – San Agustin and treat yourself to the real Ibiza.

Honestly, the island is overflowing with action and events so please check out our What's on / Events calendar and celebrate all the island is and has to offer – we've high-lighted 26 (!) events just for today!

Restaurant of the Week: Sa Flama, San Antonio Bay

Yes, it's fantastic to eat out at a celebrity chef restaurant but sometimes a quiet beach, authentic food and a price that makes your wallet smile is just the ticket. Hello Sa Flama Restaurant, San Antonio Bay – check it out.

Fashion Tip of the Week:

"There's just a way Get Lucky affects you that is magic. It's a drug with no aftertaste, no hangover. Other than euphoria!" (Bob Lefsetz, Music blogger)

Leena Bhatti, Fashion Editor observes: "Such is the hypnotic effect of this homage to disco infused 80's soul track from French EDM Kings, Daft Punk. I predict a disco-tech fashion revolution this summer. Not surprising as the robots, Pharell and Nile Rodgers are all decked out in suave Saint Laurent smoking jackets in the video. Gentlemen look to Hedi Slimane and a skinnier edgy silhouette. Ladies keep it strictly elegant not ballroom by keeping sequins to one item"

Clubbing:

Stivi, Head of Clubbing:

"The clubbing team is still in bits & pieces after the IMS International Music Summit and the opening parties last weekend. It's safe to say the island has had a fantastic start into the clubbing season, every venue we've seen was very busy and the vibe was just great! Make sure you have a read through our clubbing magazine so you don't miss out on any of our reviews.

Now, looking ahead at the next few days, it doesn't seem like we'll be getting a lot of recovery time.

Tonight, the most popular party at Pacha - F*** Me I'm Famous - is back and David Guetta will ensure the iconic club will once more be jam-packed with his fans.

On Friday, the boat party season starts with Pukka Up doing their first round of boat parties from both Playa d'en Bossa and San Antonio (and by the way, with their Friday boat party tickets you'll get into Pacha too on the same night!), so make sure you don't miss out on this.

Saturday is either Hed Kandi's opening party at San An's beatuiful club Es Paradis or, if you're more into your underground house music, it's Playa d'en Bossa all the way with ANTS kicking off at Ushuaïa in the afternoon and Space's boutique night Kehakuma launching another season at night.

Maybe have a quiet Sunday (or one with the drummers up on Benirras beach), it might be the last quiet-ish Sunday for a long time..."

For and on behalf of the team at Ibiza Spotlight, wishing you and yours a truly fantastic week!,

Cat Milton.
