The suntanned Ibiza boys who hire out sun-loungers on the island's beaches are really pleased with the way the season is going for them. A quick 'bums on seats' count has revealed that business is up by around 20% to 30% on last year!
César Jerez, who is president of the association of businesses who work the beaches – hiring sun-loungers, parasols, pedal boats and water sports equipment – says that he was expecting another bad year after 2009, the worst in history.
Now, he has noted that across the entire island, there are more customers, and more importantly, customers with money. The biggest increase has been in the British sector of the market, which he attributes to the strengthening Pound against the Euro.
With around 1000 sun-lounger concessions spread over Ibiza's beaches the 'industry' employs around 1500 people so is quite an important sector of the economy.
Let's hope the upward trend continues. More beach bums from our photo gallery.
