Possibly one of the most important construction projects in Ibiza, the conversion of the town's castle into a luxury Parador hotel, is being delayed because of a lack of power.
Way back in May, the construction company requested that GESA, (at the moment) the one and only company on the island which supplies electricity, provide an electricity sub-station to supply sufficient power for the project.
Now, only 4 months later, they still haven't done it. With so much equipment on site – the giant cranes gobble up power – the fuse blows every time the lads put the kettle on. Work has been delayed, there's a danger of men being laid off and the project architect's requests for a meeting with GESA haven't been answered.
The only light at the end of this very dark tunnel is that very soon the supply of electricity will be opened up to competition and companies like GESA will have to improve their customer service.
