The statistics at Ibiza airport have taken on as much importance as the Dow Jones Index this year with the western world in recession. The good news is that despite economic woes, the numbers of passengers up to the end of August is only 2.2% down on the same period last year.
The figures behind the figures show that in the month, British travellers feeling the effects of the drop in Sterling were down by 8.6% but that the Spanish, taking holidays nearer to home were up!
What is sure though, is that although people are coming on holiday, they're not spending as much as they normally do. Hence takings in souvenir shops and restaurants are down as people do without non-essentials or luxuries like a full lunch in favour of a home made sandwich.
