We're often asked where the best place to get tickets is in Ibiza. The answer of course is your nearest Guardia Civil Traffic cop who will happily hand out on the spot fines for any number of bizarre offences.
We had some great news on this very subject last week when sources in the Guardia's association – they're not allowed to be in a Trade Union because they are a branch of the military – said that they would not be handed out any tickets for minor infractions of the motoring laws.
It seems that they are up in arms about their additional Christmas pay (or more likely the lack of it) and had decided on a kind of work to rule. They would be out on patrol as normal, but because they were issuing only tickings-off and not tickets, the state would be deprived of massive revenues.
However before we all rush out and start driving like madmen a little green bird told us that everything is tickety-boo now and it's fines sans frontières in Ibiza as the guys in green go about their business with their usual gusto.
So motorists, think twice before you go driving on the right, stopping at red traffic lights, and giving way politely to other road users....you just never know!
