Ibiza 1 - Real Madrid 0

Mention Ibiza and our thoughts don't normally turn to deeds of derring-do on the playing fields

Mention Ibiza and our thoughts don't normally turn to deeds of derring-do on the playing fields of Spain. However, yesterday's events in the Spanish Football First Division were dominated by an Ibicenco.

The mighty Real Madrid (the team David Beckham used to play for) went to the small town of Villarreal looking for the 3 points that would take them back to the top of the league. Unhappily for the Galactic stars, the team from the middle of nowhere came from nowhere and beat them 1- 0.

The only goal of the game was scored by 19-year-old midfielder Marcos Garcia in the 68th minute and gave Villarreal their first ever victory over Real Madrid.

So where's the Ibiza connection? Well, star player and goal scorer Marcos Garcia Barreno is from San Antonio and used to play for local team Portmany before moving to the lofty heights of the Spanish league.
