The diocese of Ibiza now has its 13th Archbishop after Vicente Juan Segura was ordained in a solemn ceremony in the cathedral last week. Over 1300 people were there to participate in the occasion which was presided over by one of the Vatican's top men, Archbishop Leonardo Sandri who is number three in the Roman Catholic Hierarchy.
After the massed choirs of both Santa Eulalia and San Jose had sung the liturgy the Roman Archbishop read out a message of congratulations from the new Pope Benedict XVI. He then went on to say that Ibiza's new Archbishop would have to pay special attention to Ibiza's unique spiritual and moral problems which have been brought about by a sudden change from being a traditional rural society to a modern cosmopolitan one.
Good luck to the new Archbishop.
