After the terrible events in Madrid last week millions of people took to the streets in protest at terrorist acts. In Ibiza 42,000 people gathered in the town's main Vara de Rey square to begin a largely silent march to the Parque de la Paz (Peace Park) on the other side of town.
Led by politicians of all parties the multitude slowly made its way through the town's main streets taking nearly 90 minutes to arrive at its destination. Everybody was there, all ages, all genders, all nationalities, all united against the terrible atrocities, some carrying posters, placards, banners, and nearly all wearing the looped black ribbon of mourning, and the only sound punctuating the air was the sporadic outbreaks of hand-clapping, a sign of respect for the dead.
Later, the police and civil authorities reported that there had not been one single incident or injury in such a large-scale gathering.
