Top Taxi Tips

Word has reached us that some

Word has reached us that some (and we stress the word some) unscrupulous taxi drivers are taking advantage of unwary tourists by using the scenic route to get them from A to B.

Now that meters have been installed in all taxis which determine the fare by the number of kilometres travelled, rather than the old fixed rate for journeys, it is to the advantage of the driver to make a longer journey.

This practice seems particularly prevalent on runs from the airport where new arrivals are more likely to be unfamiliar with the island roads. We have heard stories of visitors being driven to San Antonio or the Bay area via Ibiza town, a practice which can add 6 or 7 Euros to the average fare but loses the driver little time.

Our tip for visitors going to San Antonio is to ensure that the driver goes through the village of San Jose and if you see 3 Cathedrals on the journey you're probably paying too much!
