The Romany inhabitants of the troublesome Sa Penya district, where most of the narcotics and stolen goods trade goes on, are up in arms. In an effort to control the criminal activities in this warren like district the police erected barriers in the streets to restrict access and egress to and from the area. Crying an affront to human rights, the residents tore down the barriers and threw them into the sea. The police and local authorities have threatened to reinstall the gates, saying that 35 police are required to control this area adequately without them, and that this is too large a drain on resources. We will, of course, follow this situation in future editions of Net News.
