The Lady Moura

The most expensive private yacht in the world, the Lady Moura, owned by Nasser al-Rashid, a (multi-) millionaire businessman in Saudi Arabia and an advisor to the country's King Fahd, is berthed in Ibiza at the moment. The yacht is 105 m long and 18.5 m wide, and is officially classed as the 6th biggest private yacht in the world.

Last night hundreds of onlookers were seen holding cameras waiting for a glimpse of the owner. Rumours abounded - it was the Sultan of Brunei himself, or even the King of Jordan. Crewmen (100 total) were constantly polishing the windows, railings, deck and gang-plank - even the brand new hire cars (Mercedes transporters) were given a quick dusting off before being used to ferry the guests into town.

There were no other private yachts in that part of the harbour - we suspect Dr. Al-Rashid had hired the whole length of the port for himself! In fact, although it's hard to believe, two identical yachts were built - one for his wife as well... the mind boggles.

Technical Specifications

Built by Blohm and Voss in Hamburg in 1991 and designed both inside and outside by Italian architect, Luigi Sturchio, the yacht boasts several impressive extras, such as a 10 m long door which opens in the side of the hull, allowing the owner to take his morning coffee just above the water line, or the 40 ft. Cigarette speedboat to ferry guests to the shore. Of course for longer trips one can also take the helicopter out, which perches on the top deck!
