The ball pagès (literally country dance) is the traditional dance from Ibiza.
It is a dance based on ancient courtship traditions and rituals, in which the woman dances softly and delicately around the man, while he dances vigorously leaping around her to demonstrate his strength and masculinity.
She wears more than twelve slips (or underskirts) and impressive golden or silver and coral jewellery, while he plays some of the biggest castanets in the world made of juniper roots.
Regularly on Fridays during the summer, starting 21 June at 21:00 h you will be able to enjoy these beautiful and unusual dances at the Plaza de Es Martell, in the Ibiza Port, near the obelisk.
