Jazz Point Ibiza, now in its fifth edition, is once again bringing some of the biggest names on the international jazz scene to perform here in Ibiza.

This Saturday, at 14:30, at the Parco Ibiza in San Antonio, the international Albino Mbie Sextet combines the essence of several musical traditions to create a uniquely authentic sound.

Albino Mbie is a multi-award-winning musician, guitarist, singer, composer, sound engineer, music producer, and professor at Berklee.

He was born in the Kumakwane District, Bairro George Dimitrov, commonly known as Benfica, in the suburbs of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique—a Southern African country celebrated for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Demonstrating the resourcefulness and determination characteristic of Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at the age of 15 using a five-litre oil can, some scrap wood, and electrical cords for strings.

In 2009, he moved to the U.S. to attend Berklee as one of the first Africans to receive a full-tuition scholarship through the Berklee African Scholars Program. He graduated in 2013 with a dual major in music production and engineering, and guitar performance, along with dual minors in acoustics and electronics.

Since then, he has shared his Mozambican roots—music, dance, culture, and native languages—infused with the experience of living and studying in the U.S., with audiences around the world. Over the years, he has developed a unique sound that blends Marrabenta, Afro-Pop, and Mozambique Jazz, combining various rhythmic patterns and musical concepts.
