Location: 15 minutes drive from Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa
Facilities: None - pure relaxation!
Activities: Surf, birdwatching
Size: 3.2 km long, 55 metres wide
Getting there: Reached by car on the road from Ibiza Town, past the airport towards Cala Jondal and before Sa Caleta beach. Take the left turn just after the small supermarket on the left. Only a small car park, but normally there is always a space available, even during the high season.
The beach
To the east of Sa Caleta and literally under the flight path of the airport, Es Codolar is one of the longest and least frequented beaches on the island.
It's completely covered with large grey pebbles, (in Catalan, a pebble is a 'codol') making access a bit tricky (bathing shoes recommended), but once you pass this barrier, the soft sand and crystal clear water feel like heaven. On windy days or after a storm, surfers try their luck to get a ride.
There are no facilities, so bring your own chair and sunshade, as well as food and drinks - or get stocked up at the small local supermarket on the way, where you also can have a coffee or drinks after your beach visit.
The whole area is part of the nature reserve of the Las Salinas salt pans, which form the backdrop at the very end of the beach (passing the end of the runway of the airport).
The beach is bordered by an extensive area of pine trees and shrubs, criss-crossed by sandy paths that are ideal for walks.
