In 2007 Armada proved to be one of the top nights in Ibiza and despite only being in it’s fourth season has already become a firm favourite for many.
In fact, Armada has been one of the success stories of Ibiza over recent years, with the ever-popular Armin van Buuren responsible for elevating the trance club night to new heights.
Armin, along with Tiesto and Paul van Dyk, makes up the top three dj’s in the world (according to the notable ‘The DJ List’, as voted for by the public), proving the mass appeal trance music has over clubbers worldwide.
But it’s not all about trance here at Armada, as Armin and guests play out a compelling selection of tunes, ranging from trance to progressive to tech-house.
At the opening party on Tuesday 10 July, the music in the main room was exceptional as expected.
Nick Warren, Armin and Markus Schulz succeeded in building up and then maintaining the energy of the crowd, whist playing some terrific tracks designed to keep you on the dancefloor.
For someone who prefers to dance to good old house music, the energetic sound coming out of Amnesia’s superb sound system was good enough to remain in the same spot for most of the night !
However, for those who like to explore their clubs, the terrace offers a very different alternative at Armada this season.
The terrace on Tuesdays is now the home of ‘the first innovative black music explosion to hit Ibiza’, hosted by Sophisticated Funk !
Live rappers performing on stage – accompanied by some extremely hot dancing babes and hip-hop sounds – putting on an entertaining show that wouldn’t be out of place at the Brixton Academy.
Unfortunately, Brixton is a long way from Ibiza and for those leaving the main room for a quick breather it was a little confusing, and to be honest rather surreal.
With Armada billed as a trance night, it seems a strange decision to link up with a hip-hop promoter, although in it’s own right it may be good enough to draw in it’s own crowd. Time will tell.
But for now, this night belongs to Armin and for all it’s worth, we think it’s in very safe hands.
