A sweeping election victory for the right wing Partido Popular (PP) all over Spain was repeated in Ibiza at all levels of Government.
The PP now hold the Balearic Government with a record number of Deputies and the Ibiza Island Government (Consell) which they gained from the left.
In the local Municipalities, the PP continue to hold Santa Eulalia, San Juan, San Antonio, and surprise of the day, they took Ibiza town from the socialists. In San Jose, it seems likely that the socialists will still govern, though they don't have an absolute majority.
Whilst the PP are celebrating record victories and majorities they may also be asking themselves, in the name of democracy, why so many people either didn't bother to vote or handed in a blank voting slip.
Less than 20% of foreigners in the Balearic Islands applied to vote, the best turnout figures in Ibiza were in San Juan were 65% of all those eligible voted, in Santa Eulalia and San Jose less then 50% voted.
Well, let's see what happens in the next 4 years.
