After throwing monthly Akasha takeovers from June to October, part of us expected SlapFunk Records run to end at the close of the tourist season. Thankfully, we've been proven wrong. SlapFunk continues into the autumn season, returning on Friday 15 November.
Flying the flag for the Utretch-based imprint, is highly-rated Dutch-Congolese DJ Doudou MD. Alongside her, Jacobo Saavedra and Jay Nortown's JNJS project is back.
The Netherlands is currently one of the most creative breeding grounds for underground electronic music, with SlapFunk sitting at the forefront of the movement. Along with PIV, No Art, Up The Stuss and VBX, they form what is a golden generation of Dutch innovation.
Those previously initiated will know what to expect. But if you're unfamiliar, you'll encounter deep, driving, stripped-back grooves from start to finish. This is how it went down in August.
That's just the start of the weekend.
The following night, veteran DJ Bushwacka and Gala head Iban Mendoza line up together.
This date comes hot on the heels of Bushwacka's latest EP, which dropped on the legendary Nu Groove at the start of the month. For a taster of the night, you can listen to the title track above.
As sure as day follows nights, the weekend ends with the next instalment of market-adjacent Nido on 17 November.
Entry is free between 13:00 and 20:00 in the garden, with all ages welcome when children are accompanied by an adult. After dark, we move inside to finish the night in adult-only Akasha, when tickets become active.
Bohem, Izhy, Shadeh, Sena, Tanika and Words Of Niō are all on hand.
Tickets for Friday and Saturday can be purchased below. For Nido, please visit this page.
