Beach of the week: Cala Gració

This popular, child-friendly beach is within walking distance of San Antonio.

Cala Gració should be a must-see beach for anyone staying in San Antonio. It is an unusually deep swathe of fine sand, with plenty of space to stretch out on, and shallow, warm water in which to bathe.

There are two directions to access the beach: either via the south of the beach with street parking by the TRS Hotel or via the north by the little lane that runs down from the Stella Maris Hotel.

Parking is limited so for those staying in San Antonio we recommend accessing it on foot or alternatively by bus (Lines 105 & 106 from San Antonio).

With the establishment of some five-star hotels close by, it has become somewhat more upmarket in recent years.

It is an optimal beach for children as it slopes gently, has a lifeguard, and has little in the way of strong waves or currents. The bay itself widens from a narrow beginning to much wider the closer you get to the sea.

Sun-loungers and parasols are available to rent on the beach; they are not expensive but there is a minimum spend at the restaurant that has the concession for renting them out.

When the kids have had enough of sea and sand, there is a pleasant coastal path leading to the smaller beach of Cala Gracioneta for exploring together. For the more adventurous, the surrounding rocky areas also provide a good spot for snorkelling.

Beach bars and restaurants

Right on the beach there is an excellent beach bar, Gració Beach, whose menu consists of tasty Mexican-influenced bites. And, on the smaller beach next door, less than five minutes away on foot, you'll find the very popular beach restaurant Cala Gracioneta, serving Mediterranean specialities.

Note: parking is available to guests in the spacious car park - with an attendant - that belongs to Gració Beach Ibiza, the bar mentioned above.

Litter disposal: Please make use of the coloured recycling bins (see this article if new to you) when disposing of your litter and - if you smoke - make sure to take your used cigarette butts with you. See our article on Responsible Smoking on Ibiza's Beaches here

To sum up: Cala Gració - with its child-friendly waters, beautiful natural surroundings and good facilities - is a great choice for those staying in San Antonio and for those in other parts of Ibiza who fancy a nice day out on the west coast. If you stay around until the sun sets, you might be in for a real treat...
