A full meeting of the San Antonio town council has approved a motion which means that in the near future all its meetings will be held in Space! This isn't quite as groundbreaking as it initially sounds and it certainly doesn't mean that our hardworking public servants will be joining the rest of the island in the 20th century.
What has happened is that the owners of Space discotheque, who had planned to open a new nitery by the port in San Antonio and were met with howls of protest from neighbours in the area, have decided not to go ahead with the plan. Instead the promoter will lease its premises to the council at a rent of €144,000 (some reports say € 210,000) a year for the next six years while a new town hall is specially built on the site of the old one.
