Ibiza Rocks has seen some fantastic live gigs so far this summer, including some outstanding performances from Kasabian (twice), The Holloways, Mika, Mark Ronson and Hard-Fi (pictured below).
Since hosting Ibiza Rocks for the last two seasons, Bar M has been the home of some very exciting sun-kissed gigs.
But are these now coming to an end ?
We certainly hope not, but under the current political climate in Ibiza it appears that every venue is under scrutiny. And so now it seems that Bar M is the latest target for the
local authorities.
Ibiza Rocks is responsible for bringing in a whole new wave of party people to Ibiza, whilst introducing a whole new concept of live indie music alongside the more familiar club music.
However as the drama continues to unfold here – and it’s been a very dramatic
season so far - the latest Ibiza Rocks gig was stopped from opening by the powers that be.
The Streets Soundsystem, featuring Mike Skinner, were meant to have played live on Monday night at Bar M, but instead 100’s of unfortunate ticket holders had
to settle for a refund instead.
The reason – Bar M apparently not having the correct license required to play live music outdoors.
Of course, Bar M aren’t the only venue being singled out – as Kanya and El Ayoun can confirm, having also been subject to fines and closure – but ultimately it’s the customer
that is suffering.
Many visitors to Ibiza arrange their trip to coincide with particular dj’s or bands, as in the case of Ibiza Rocks.
Confirmed bands that are expected to appear over the rest of the summer include The Kaiser Chiefs, The Fratellis and of course, The
Arctic Monkeys.
Naturally, we’ve got our fingers crossed that any Ibiza visitors at that time don’t miss out on the opportunity to catch any of these top acts.
But at the time of writing, it’s uncertain what exactly will happen next – will Ibiza Rocks be allowed to continue at Bar M, or will there be an alternative venue available
?
