For years now, Ibiza has enjoyed a well earned reputation as one of Europe's top wedding destinations. Of the many nuptial locations it offers, its beautiful whitewashed churches stand out. In this article, we'll be taking a closer look at some of them and what they have to offer, to help you choose the one that best suits your needs on this most special of days.
There are, of course, certain legalities that must be taken into account when getting married in a church in Ibiza: check our FAQs for more information.
San Agustín
This charming village lies about 25 minutes from the airport and Ibiza Town by car. With its plain interior, solid walls and simple cubic design, the village church is a fine example of Ibizan architecture. Step outside onto the expansive square and you are treated to panoramic views of the hills of San José and the open countryside surrounding the village. Just made for snapping those wedding pics!
Santa Eulalia
With its breathtaking vistas of the Mediterranean and the gorgeous surrounding countryside, Santa Eulalia's church – also known as Puig de Missa - is one of Ibiza's top wedding venues. It lies just a 30-minute drive from the airport and about 20 minutes from Ibiza Town. Owing to its steep hilltop location and the narrow winding streets, parking, however, is not optimal. For the reception, Amante at nearby Sol d'en Serra beach and Nikki Beach Club near Cala Martina are excellent options.
Es Cubells
Centrally situated in the heart of the village, Es Cubells church commands spectacular views of the island's south coastline and across the sea to Formentera. It also benefits from ample parking areas nearby. It's not hard to see why this one is one of the island's most popular locations for weddings, whether for locals or visitors. Es Cubells is about a 40-minute drive from Ibiza Town and about 30 minutes from the airport.
San Carlos
Lacking the sea views but making up for them with its columned porch, quintessentially rural Ibiza character, pristine lawns surrounding it, and the picturesque charm of the village itself, San Carlos church is another great option for a magical Ibizan wedding. The village is around a 30-minute drive from Ibiza Town, and a big plus is the ample parking nearby. Glamorous beach club Aiyanna in nearby Cala Nova is the perfect place for an unforgettable reception afterwards.
San José
Another one without sea views, however, the San José church easily makes up for it, thanks to its exquisite interior, the appeal of the village itself, and the spacious plaza in front of it that is just ideal for photo opportunities. Another factor in its favour is its highly convenient location, just 20 minutes from the airport and Ibiza Town. Locals' favourite restaurant S'Illa des Bosc in Cala Conta, and the spectacular Cotton Beach Club in Cala Tarida, both very popular reception venues, are under a 15-minute drive away.
San Rafael
Located right in the centre of the island, San Rafael offers superb views over the island, Ibiza Town and Formentera. No wonder its generously proportioned 18th-century church is such a sought-after wedding venue! Nearby Ibiza legend Las Dos Lunas - with its expansive gardens, ample interior spaces and plentiful parking - is a highly recommended reception spot.
