The beach
Popular with the locals, this small and sheltered beach cove is idyllic for those seeking tranquillity as, even in the high season, it remains relatively quiet. The beach has a mixture of grey sand and small pebbles and the seaweed isn't cleared away. Due to the typical wooden fishermen's huts on each side of the beach it has the feel of a tiny fishing port.
Translating as "Well of the Lion", Pou d'es Lleo boasts spectacular views of the private islet of Tagomago, situated some two kilometres offshore. From the beach, it's a half hour's walk to Torre d'en Valls, one of the towers built to protect Ibiza against pirate attacks in the past. Although it's not possible to go up, the area around it affords marvellous views of the sea and Tagomago.
The picturesque countryside surrounding the cove is popular with walkers while its crystalline, turquoise water and unusual rock formations make it perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Beach bars and restaurants
There are three restaurants at Pou d'es Lleo. The first, a hostel, is located on the left as you approach the beach. It is a fully-fledged country-style restaurant with several terraces, offering fresh fish and meat dishes along with paella.
The second is found directly at the beach. A colourful beach shack that is popular with locals and holidaymakers, especially at weekends. During the day it offers light meals and snacks, later only drinks. They don't accept credit cards, only cash.
The third is found by continuing along the dirt track past the beach for a few minutes. It specialises in fish and seafood.
